Drainage # 7

This area to the right side of the lower fairway on # 7 is a chronic wet area. Ground water seems to wake its way to the surface here.

We are hand digging a french drain to connect to an existing catch basin in this area because it is to wet to get the backhoe in there. The irrigation mainline also runs through this area so hand digging is much safer.

We are making good progress digging this line and getting the area dried out a bit so we can complete laying the 4" drain line next week.

Fescue Mound Between # 7 Green and # 1

This pile of spoils was used to cover a ledge outcropping.

The area had some large rocks on the surface that we cleaned up and prepared the area for shaping.

I used the backhoe to level the high spots and shape the mound so that we could maintain it with our rough mower.

A few loads of topsoil to finish smoothing out the mound and it will be ready for fescue seed.

Catch Basin Repair # 1

This catch basin on the right hand side of # 1 fairway was in dire need for repair.

We installed this 15" x 4" x 15" tee to the existing good drain line. In the future we will tie into the 4" connector with a new drain line coming off the fairway and extend the 15" line.

We needed to break apart the concrete block catch basin in order to get the new tee installed. The down stream pipe is old galvanized pipe that is deteriorated and needs to be replaced.

We decided to install a section of 15" perforated pipe to catch the excess water and connect it to the old galvanized pipe until we get the funding to replace the old galvanized pipe.

We then filled the area around the new perforated pipe with drain stone ...

and added topsoil to level off the area. We will seed or sod the area this spring when the weather is conducive .

Number one Fairway Drainage Update

Today Jeff and Billy worked on getting the 4" drain line laid and backfilled.

The line was connected to drainage boxes on both ends and backfilled with drainage sand to encapsulate the 4" perforated pipe.

After the drainage sand was compacted a high quality topsoil was backfilled on the top 8-10" of the trench.

The drain line will be finished off with bentgrass sod and be a big improvement to the fairway.

Drainage on Number One Fairway

Yesterday afternoon we started to work on installing a drain line on # 1 fairway. The new line will be tied into the existing drain box pictured above.

The area is a low valley at the end of the fairway that funnels water and had several worn areas.

The digging was not easy and all the spoils were hauled off to be used as fill on # 7.

This is a good example of what we were finding all along the trench and very close to the surface.

Today we completed the digging, cleaned up the spoils and plywood, set the drain box, and leveled the bottom of the trench with drainage sand in preparation for perforated pipe tomorrow.

Number Thirteen Drainage Completed

We decided to extend the drainage from the bunker to an existing 6" drain line.

We dug this line by hand because the area was to wet for the backhoe.

This morning we completed back filling the perforated pipe with drain rock...

connected the 4" line to the 6" line...

cleaned up the spoils...

and returned the sod to the drain line. We will clean this area up better when it dries out a bit.

Today we finally completed the backfilling and sodding of the trench.

Number 13 Bunker Renovation Continued

We made some good headway today taking advantage of the gorgeous weather.

We finished backfilling the drain line in the bunker with crushed stone to grade.

Backfilling of the fairway section of the exit drain was also completed.

The plywood was picked up and the fairway cleaned. The trench was prepped for sod by raking out the stones, leveling the soil, and incorporating a natural 5-4-5 fertilizer.

Finally the fairway sod that we removed before digging the trench was replaced and rolled smooth.

Tomorrow we will be working to complete the backfilling of the trench and replacing the rough sod. Once complete we can concentrate on laying the liner on the bunker floor and adding sand.

Tree Work

We had a large tree come down this past weekend with the strong winds.

We started our week by getting this cleaned up.

Progress Report for # 13 Bunker Renovation

Slowly but surely we are getting this project buttoned up. We used a break in the weather this week to get the 4" drain line installed.

We worked on backfilling the trench until the rains came.

The drain pipe sticking up on the far side of the bunker is a clean out that will be trimmed flush with the turf. We will be able to force irrigation water through the drain line to periodically flush the system.

We received .50" of rain after getting the drain line laid and the water is flowing as expected. The weather is looking good for the upcoming week so we will be able to finish backfilling the trench and get the sod laid back down.

The front bunker was in serious need of renovation and drainage.

The bunker was almost hidden from the tee and would fill with water after rain events.

We raised the face of the bunker up a few feet to make it more visible from the tee.

Now we are in the process of adding the 4" drain line.

Number thirteen tee box renovation

Before renovating the tee box had a severe mound in the middle which made for difficult tee shots.

The old sod was removed and used to patch worn areas on fairways #17 and #18.

The next step was to rototill the root zone and level the surface. Followed by fertilizer and fresh sod.

The new bentgrass tee surface is growing in nicely and will be a big improvement.
